Two evening cricket cup matches end in ties
Author: Contributed, Posted: Thursday, 25th May 2017, 13:00
Two Cheltenham & Gloucester Cricket Association Abbey Business Challenge Cup games both ended in ties!
There was nothing between Charlton Kings and Cheltenham Civil Service and, incredibly, exactly the same scenario was played out when Hatherley and Reddings hosted Cheltenham.
In the first match, Benny Ellis hit 44 off 27 balls (five fours, three sixes) and Neal Mitchell an unbeaten 40 from 13 deliveries (three fours, four sixes) in Kings’ total of 151-6, Durjan Hussain finishing with 4-31 from four.
In reply, Civil Service were on the ropes at 64-7 as Mike Salmon grabbed 3-25 before Callum Wilson and Henry Buckland added 83 off 56 balls.
That brought the target down to five off seven balls. James Taylor bowled Wilson (52) as Civil Service could scramble only four singles from the first five balls of Steve Griffiths’ last over, Felix McDermott-Krasker also completing a run out.
With the scores level, Buckland was run out by Ali Parker for 29 to ensure a tie in an epic encounter.
At Hatherley, meanwhile, skipper Tom Hage crashed a remarkable unbeaten 115 from 71 balls (15 fours, two sixes) in a challenge of 163-8, the next highest scorer being extras on 14 as Stefan Hunt captured 4-16 from four after twice being on a hat-trick.
Cheltenham’s reply was dominated by opener Pete Woodland (87 from 59 balls; 11 fours and a six) but Hatherley, led by Rob Dent (3-30) kept their nerve in a tense finish to ensure another tie.
The competition resumes on Tuesday with three ties: Charlton Kings v Hatherley & Reddings, Cheltenham v Cheltenham Civil Service and Gloucester City Winget v Apperley.Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
