Rising Star: Anthony Cruise, Gloucester Athletic Club

As a runner, young Anthony Cruise is an A* pupil.
The soon-to-be 18-year-old has just taken his A-levels at Hartpury College and is hoping to go to University of Exeter to study environmental science.
He’ll get his results next month, but as far as his running is concerned he’s been getting excellent marks for a long time now.
He recently finished third in the Gloucester 10K, clocking a fine time of 34 minutes, 21 seconds.
He’s actually recorded a faster time for the distance - 32.50 at Bourton-on-the-Water - but he was nonetheless happy with his Gloucester run.
He competes for Gloucester Athletic Club and said: “I’ll run any distance from 800 metres to 10K, 10K is my favourite.”
His preferred distance on the track is 1,500 metres and he has a PB of 4.09.
Cruise lives in Quedgeley and he has followed in his dad Paul’s footsteps when it comes to running.
“My dad was a social runner,” he said. “I started running about five years ago.
“I like walking but when I’m running I can go further, I feel like I’m walking further!”
He also likes to compete, as does his 15-year-old brother Joe, a pupil at St Peter’s School.
Theo Gloucester 10K at the end of last month was his first over the distance and he completed in 38.20 which earned him 24th place overall.
“He’s very good,” said his brother. “He recently ran 1.59 in the 800 metres.”Other Images
