Old Centralians are counting down the days to the start of the new campaign.

And it’s going to be a big one for the club, who were formed in 1937, because they will be celebrating their 90^th season.

“Yes, it is,” said chairman Malcolm Price. “It’s a good achievement to be going this long, it’s definitely something to celebrate.”

Old Centralians finished sixth in the 12-strong Regional 2 Severn last time out, one place and three points outside the play-offs.

They are hoping to improve on that in 2026/27 but Price admits that won’t be easy.

“It’s a big season for us but it’s a competitive league,” he said. “We’ve still got Chippenham in the division, and Cleve too.

“Chinnor 3rds will also be playing in the division – that will be interesting – while Marlborough and Matson have both come down.”

Old Centralians beat Matson 26-24 to win the North Gloucestershire Combination’s Elite Cup in May and Price said: “That was a big thing for us to win. It’s still an important competition.

“If you go in for it, you want to win it.”

And it was just that bit more sweeter because it was Matson they beat in the final.

“We’ve held the mantle over them, then they held it over us,” Price said. “Then they went up.

“The aim for us is to recruit well, we want to play at as high a level as we can.”
