Festive fashion fun

When we think of Christmas jumpers, our thoughts often conjure up images of an older relative turning up to Christmas lunch in a garish number that gives everyone a good giggle! 2023 is a different story.

Christmas jumpers have become much more fashionable in recent years, from pretty festive patterns to luxurious cashmere designs. Families often purchase jumpers for all their members – pets included! – as this gives the perfect opportunity to snap a photo for personalised Christmas cards. They can also be brought out every year, a little like our favourite decorations.

With all the heavy advertising for the season, which seems to start earlier every year, it may feel a little overwhelming, particularly if you are spending Christmas alone. If you are by yourself, you can still try to get into the spirit – your jumper will at least make you smile!

If jumpers are not for you, there is an enormous range of pyjamas and sparkly outfits to help you get into the festive spirit.

Next

A great place to go for matching pyjamas for the entire family, Next’s Christmas jumper selection is also superb. You’ll be spoilt for choice and at a very reasonable price.

The Alphabet Gift Shop

This company has some very original jumper styles on their website, alongside other unique gift ideas. You also have the option of personalising your jumper with an initial or name of your choice. With a lovely selection of designs, these jumpers can be unisex, are generous size-wise and would make for a unique gift for that special person.

Sustainability

While it can be great fun to purchase a new Christmas jumper each year, why not consider a jumper swap with family, friends or colleagues? This way, you get to show off a new design without spending any money or contributing to new items being produced.

Alternatively, charity shops are usually full of Christmas jumpers, especially in the new year once the festivities have finished. This is another way to grab a bargain without having to purchase brand new.

Pets

We are, of course, a nation of animal lovers, so many of us won’t want our furry friends to feel left out. Lots of pet shops now sell festive coats, jumpers and even silly hats. Just be mindful that not all pets will find dressing up ‘fun’, and don’t leave them unattended whilst wearing their outfit.

Christmas accessories

You don’t need to buy a whole new outfit to feel festive – accessories are a great way to jazz up an existing outfit. From Christmas socks and slippers, to a patterned scarf, there are loads of ways to accessorise your wardrobe.

If sparkles are more your vibe, why not go for a glittery headband or some sparkly statement earrings?

Stick to a budget

With decorations, dinner, days out and more, the Christmas period can soon become very expensive. It’s a good idea to choose a budget for each element – including any new outfits – and try to stick to it as closely as possible. After all, we want to enjoy the festivities, not stress about them.

Happy holidays one and all!
