Embracing positive momentum

As we say goodbye to winter and look forward to spring, many of us begin to reflect on the journeys that lie ahead. This time of year is less about resolutions and more about sustaining the momentum we have built since the turn of the year.

It is inevitable that, throughout the year, we’ll be met with both opportunities and challenges that are shaped by our choices and actions. Our experiences and growth will depend on how we respond to the twists and turns of life. The months ahead will undoubtedly present hurdles – some within our control and others beyond it.

Prioritise growth over comfort

If you’re seeking positive progress this season, it can be helpful to commit to ‘the road less travelled’ by prioritising growth over comfort and choosing courage over fear each day.

By now, you might be diligently working on your goals, intentions or resolutions; however, it’s likely that some items on your list are carried over year after year. Many of us fall short of our aspirations for similar reasons each year. For example, I struggle with consistency when trying to do something new or different.

Here are some obstacles that can impede our journey:
Fear of judgment: worrying about what others think can paralyse our ambitions.
Self-sabotage: feeling guilty about wanting to improve ourselves often holds us back.
Instant gratification: social media can lead to inaction through endless scrolling.
Sweating the small stuff: focusing on trivial matters detracts from our true objectives.
Procrastination: the fear of taking the first step can prevent action.
Overthinking: getting stuck in our thoughts can impede our progress.
Feeling undeserving: doubts about our self-worth can thwart our efforts.
Limited support: not surrounding ourselves with positive influences stifles growth.

Remind yourself of your deeper purpose

Before diving into your new diet, job, studies or exercise routine, take a moment to hone in on your motivations, so you can draw from the power of your reasons why. You can do this by creating a list and documenting why you want to achieve your goals. Each time you’re tempted to falter, revisit this list to remind yourself of your deeper purpose. Keeping the big picture in focus helps navigate distractions that can easily steer you off course.

Create your list of ‘reasons why’

If you haven’t done so yet, particularly in areas of struggle, now is the time to create your personalised list of ‘reasons why’. This year is about your growth and fulfilment. By recognising your motivations, you’ll reinforce your commitment to overcoming obstacles.

A key element binding all this together is discipline. Sometimes we must make hard choices for our own greater good and long-term success.

As you continue on your journey, remember that each step towards your goals is a choice. Choose wisely, and may 2026 be a year of profound change and personal triumph for you. Embrace it fully!
