Meet the Writer: Will Mbanga

With his impressive list of qualifications across the health and wellness board, and his vast experience in the world of sport, were delighted that Will Mbanga writes our Looking Good, Feeling Great feature, and has done since October 2018.

Across the wide range of topics he covers in his articles, Will shares his knowledge, experience, research and advice to help our readers become the best versions of themselves. Whether thats improving their strength and fitness, addressing nutritional concerns, or focusing on their mental wellbeing, Will is a beacon of knowledge on the subject of health and wellness.

We asked Will to share a little bit about himself and why he writes for us.

“My background is in Biokinetics & Exercise Physiology. I am passionate about the holistic development of people through an integrated approach that takes in the Physical-Emotional-Mental-Social aspects and how these are impacted on, by and through our nutrition, education and wellbeing choices. I enjoy researching new, as well as trusty well-known, methodologies and sharing good practice across these areas to empower the reader to be challenged and inspired to think critically and engage with their holistic health journey.”

Do you have any formal qualifications related to your chosen topic?
“I have graduate and postgraduate qualifications in Sport Science and Exercise Physiology, Strength & Conditioning, alongside professional qualifications in Performance & Lifestyle Nutrition, Wellness Coaching and advanced coaching certificates in a number of different sport codes.”

What is your favourite thing about The Local Answer?
“The engagement of the readership with the huge variety of topics, events and businesses.”

What is your favourite thing about Gloucestershire?
“The glorious countryside, friendly people and huge variety of opportunities available across all age and gender groups.”

What is your favourite way to exercise?
“HIIT and Metabolic Conditioning training, although Im definitely starting to feel my age! Ive never been a fan of cardio but it certainly should be the basis of any good training plan.”

What is your favourite post-exercise meal or snack?
“Snack-wise, bananas for their nutritional value and ease of digestion; chocolate milk for the same reasons but also the taste! My guilty pleasure is a Snickers Creamy Peanut Butter bar! Meal-wise, probably scrambled/poached egg on toast with spinach, salmon or bacon from a taste, nutrition and gastric comfort perspective!”

What is your best piece of advice for someone looking to improve their health, fitness and wellbeing?
“Growth and improvement in the gym, at work and in life happens in the small moments of consistency, driven by discipline and clarity of purpose. Find your life/work/relationships/wellbeing/performance why and get after it!.”
