The popularity of Roots + Seeds café restaurants is growing with the arrival of Roots + Seeds Far Peak, near Northleach.

The third dining hub fills a large former barn with its trademark homely and contemporary vibe, with a striking floral display suspended from the ceiling and an indoor play area for little ones, too.

It sits next to an outdoor climbing tower and indoor Padel tennis courts and is close to Scenic Sauna with a Finnish barrel sauna and ice baths on the edge of ancient woodland.

The idyllic spot positions the new eatery in a key Cotswolds leisure destination and paves the way for a further roll-out of new openings. Next on the agenda is Cheltenham.

Roots + Seeds co-founder, Sam Lawson King, said: “We’re looking at organic growth. Far Peak has been two months in the making and we’ve got more in the pipeline.”

At the moment, the relaxed food menu is served during the day. But soon, they’ll be teaming up with founder of Chuck Burger, Lewis Spencer to bring his popular smoked meats to the evenings.

The new opening builds on the success of sister dining hubs at the Old Kennels in Cirencester and Gloucester Food Dock (where Lewis is also based).

Each spot is dog friendly and has its own identity.

The new hub at Far Peak is light and airy and houses a mix of dining tables and sofas, as well as a welcoming outdoor terrace area with benches and sheepskin rugs.

Despite the size of the building, birch cladding lends a cosy atmosphere and care has gone into the restaurant design with cheerful green cushions, terracotta pots of daffodils bringing a pop of colours to tables and potted plants dotted around the space.

Brunch and lunch are served from midday to 3pm, seven-days-a-week, and there are grab and go options.

The drinks menu includes Jeremy Clarkson’s Hawkstone, Cheltenham’s Ritual Coffee Roasters, King Stone Dairy, Bensons the Juicers as well as impressive English wines supplied by specialists. The Folc rosé from Kent is exceptional for fans of dry Provence-style wine.

Dishes use Cotswolds produce from locally reared beef, lamb, pork and poultry from Jesse Smith Family Butchers to game from Cirencester’s Bathurst Estate as well as Roots + Seeds own kitchen garden produce.

Some fish come from nearby Bibury Trout Farm and Stow-on-the-Wold’s Cacklebean Eggs feature on the menu.

Bread and bakes combine the expertise of Marks Cotswold Bakery and Hobbs House bakery.

Brunch options include a classic full English and shakshuka, while lunch items feature vibrant, colourful soups, hearty sandwiches bursting with fillings and superb salads.

More substantial dishes include burgers that are richly flavoursome, a daily special (we tried the steak and rosemary roasted fries, which were outstanding) and fish and chips.

Head chef, Russell Brookman, is planning a changing seasonal menu, so regular visitors to the site will have plenty of fresh options on each visit.
