Winter is fast approaching which means theatres across the county are readying themselves for the busy pre-Christmas season. If you enjoy nothing more than an evening at the theatre, then here are five shows that are worth seeing this month.

Dracula at The Everyman Theatre

Cheltenham’s Everyman Theatre is the setting for the world premiere of a brand-new stage adaptation of the classic thriller.

In Transylvania, enter the castle of Count Dracula and his three brides. The Count, who feeds on the elixir of young blood to look youthful, will take you on a deliciously evil ride as he pursues his victims and encounters Jonathan Harker, Professor Van Helsing and Dr. Seward along the way.

Emotionally fulfilling, utterly terrifying, spellbindingly addictive, will this Dracula ever die?

The show is running every night this week, with the final performance on Saturday.

Hound of the Baskervilles at The Barn Theatre

Cirencester’s Barn Theatre will be welcoming a master detective and his trusty sidekick later this month.

The theatre will be hosting The Hound of the Baskervilles, the famous story written by Arthur Conan Doyle that sees the legendary Sherlock Holmes and his partner Dr Watson attempt to solve one of their hardest cases.

The first performance is on Wednesday 24th October and the curtain will come down on the final show a month later on Saturday 24th November.

Not About Heroes at The Roses Theatre

Stephen Macdonald’s Fringe First winning play tells the story of the unique friendship between celebrated World War One poets Wilfred Owen and Siegfried Sassoon. They met at Craiglockhart Hospital in 1917 and bonded over a mutual hatred of war and love of poetry.

This production won a Best Actor accolade at the Wales Theatre Awards for Daniel Llewelyn Williams, who reprises his role here as Sassoon alongside Owain Gwynn as Owen.

The one-off show takes place on Tuesday 16th October at 7:30 pm.

Keep the Home Fires Burning at The Bacon Theatre

Experience an unforgettable journey through the forgotten melodies of World War One in this brand-new musical.

Based on real events, join the young heroes on their brave quest through the trenches and battlefields of France, as well as the stories of the loyal loved ones they left behind.

The show commemorates the resilience and bravery of the people involved, remembering the ultimate sacrifice that was given by so many.

Featuring a live band and a special guest appearance by local choir, Gloucester and District Christian Choir, this is your one-off chance to see this special show in the Great War Centenary year. The show is on Thursday 25th October 2018 at 7.30pm.

The National Joke at The Cotswold Playhouse

This dark comedy, written only two years ago, is extremely up-to-date, and you will recognise some very contemporary references to the current political scene.

It is an incisive depiction of the remarkably bumpy family life of a fictional MP. When three generations of the family come together to witness a solar eclipse, home truths quickly emerge.

Produced by the Hexagon Theatre Company, the show runs from 18th-20th October.
