Gloucester Vinyl Fest returns to Café Rene

Despite the fact that the modern music industry is dominated by downloads and streaming, vinyl records have experienced something of a resurgence in recent years.
With more and more artists releasing albums in the classic way, music fans of all ages are turning to record players and decks rather than phones and computers.
And a celebration of all things vinyl will be coming to Gloucester this month as Café Rene hosts their third annual Gloucester Vinyl Fest 2019.
The festival is being organised by the Café with the Stroud and Gloucester Vinyl Connection (SGVC), a local group founded by Darren Norris and Neil Wilson.
“Me and Neil set up the Stroud and Gloucester Vinyl Connection seven years ago, just for the fun of it,” said Darren.
“It developed into a proper social club and we now do regular events, one month in Gloucester and the next month in Stroud.”
The SGVC events revolve around a set of decks, and an open invitation for anyone to bring along their records and play whatever music they like.
Darren continued: “We have open decks, you’ve just got to put your name on the board and anyone can have a chance to play their music.
“We have all sorts of genres playing, whether you’ve got a bag of rock 'n’ roll or a bag of house, it’s fine by us. It’s a really good vibe.”
The SGVC will be running their open decks at the Vinyl Festival on the outdoor stage, as well as organising swap and trade shops for record collectors to come and add to their collection.
There will also be an outdoor bar and barbeque, followed by DJ sets throughout the night in the Cellar Bar.
“I’ve been a vinyl lover for years,” added Darren. “I’ve collected them since I was about 15 years old.
“You get a warmth and there’s a real feel to them as opposed to other forms of music. It’s amazing how many likeminded people I’ve met since starting SGVC.”
The Gloucester Vinyl Festival is at Café Rene on Saturday 22nd June.
