Cheltenham based band Floorboards are ready for what they hope will be another successful year.
The group begin 2019 with a gig at the Frog and Fiddle, supporting American punk rock band ‘Such Gold’.
“We’ve played it too many times to count, but it’s been a blast every time,” said drummer Tommy Harrison on returning to the Frog. “Oli Roylance who works there has graciously offered us many shows there and we are truly grateful for his and the fans’ persistent support.”
Lead singer and guitarist Jay Mansfield added: “I’ve been listening to Such Gold since before we were a band and they’re a major influence.
“It’ll be a very exciting show to play and hopefully we can get things going for everybody else before they play.”
Floorboards are still in their infancy when it comes to being together as a band but have already amassed a strong fanbase in Cheltenham.
Tommy and Jay explain how the band initially started and how they have developed in such a short time.
Tommy continued: “I used to live next door to our bass player, Jack, and would listen in on them playing songs for their old band.
“They would hear me drumming in my front room and they asked me to jam with them. The rest is history!”
Jay added: “We’ve been playing together for around 5 years or so. There’s a few things going on with other musicians getting involved as well so it all still feels fresh.”
Floorboards released their third EP, ‘Cocoon’ last October, one of many highpoints of 2018.
“The main highlight for me would be going on tour this year with Ten Tombs, our first ever tour with a great bunch of musicians,” said Jay. “One experience to tick off the bucket list!
“Recording with Jacob Dutton Keen was also very enjoyable. He put so much hard work into helping us record our latest EP.
There’s no doubt that Floorboards will be one to watch in 2019, and with more gigs, tours and festivals in the works for the new year, Jay is excited by what they have lined up.
He added: “We are looking to record a single early in the year, so keep your eyes and ears peeled for that. It’s a song we’re very proud of!”Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
