Gloucester singer Emi McDade looking forward to 2020

Emi McDade is a singer-songwriter, who has had a very busy year.
The founder of the popular monthly Limelight Sessions at Gloucester Guildhall, which has seen musicians from all over the country come to perform in the city, Emi says the success of the nights has been a really pleasant surprise.
“They’ve been really lovely performances with plenty of special moments,” she said.
“We’ve got a growing core of audiences who come to every show. But they’re still really intimate acoustic sessions.”
The idea for the Limelight Sessions came to Emi as she herself was travelling around the country doing gigs.
She wanted to bring more music into her home city of Gloucester, and set out to organise the gigs, despite her self-confessed lack of experience behind the scenes.
“I’ve been so pleased with how smoothly they’ve all gone,” continued Emi.
“There’s been some learning curves with the behind the scenes work but it’s been really wonderful.”
Aside from organising shows for other musicians, Emi herself has also been performing this year.
She recently supported folk duo The Black Feathers at Bingham Hall in their hometown of Cirencester, as well as plenty of other private and public gigs throughout the year.
Emi has been performing since she was a teenager and started writing music after being metaphorically thrown in at the deep end.
“I was in a choir called ‘Rock Choir’ when I was 14,” she explained. “It was made up of people aged 14 to 60 and we did all sorts of covers from 80s music to modern day stuff.
“One day our conductor decided he wanted us to do some original songs, and delegated me the job of writing a song.
“I’d never done it before and I was given until the next week to come up with something, so I did!”
It was from here that Emi caught the songwriting bug, and she has been writing her own music ever since.
Looking forward to the new year, Emi is excited to continue the Limelight Sessions, as well as releasing more of her own original music.
“I’ve got lots of people and shows lined up for next year,” she added.
“I’ve also been doing a lot of writing recently so hopefully I’ll get the chance to record and release some of that.”
