Popular Cheltenham-based band ‘Ten Tombs’ will be performing tracks from their new album this Friday evening at the Frog & Fiddle.
The band, who have performed at several festivals across Gloucestershire this summer, will be giving audiences a first taste of their new material when they perform at the Cheltenham pub. “The Frog & Fiddle is our local, we absolutely love playing there and we’re all really excited to be playing some new material this Friday,” said guitarist Jamie Cairney. “We’ve played at the Frog loads of times before, it’s an awesome venue, the atmosphere is lively, and the crowds are always up for it. We’ll be playing our favourite tracks and some brand-new stuff as well, it will be a great evening,” he added.
It was during the first week of their first year studying at the University of Gloucestershire that band members Jamie Cairney, Dom Watton and Jack Quance got together to form the band. Since that first meeting the band have played at all the leading music festivals in Gloucestershire as well as travelling to play gigs at cities across the UK. Jamie continued: “We met in the very first week of university back in 2015, that seems ages ago now! We all get on well and really enjoy what we do, I like to think that gets reflected in our performances. This summer has been amazing for us, we’ve performed at the Wychwood Festival, 2000trees and the Lechlade Festival. Getting asked to perform at festivals like that is really encouraging for us, it shows people appreciate what we’re doing. We’ve performed at Wychwood every year we’ve been together, it’s a great festival.
“We recently played in Brighton which was another incredible experience. We’d been trying to get a show there for ages. Some friends of ours were playing there so we asked if we could play with them and they agreed. It was probably the best gig we’ve done so far, there were people in the crowd who knew the words to our songs and were singing along while we played. That was quite a special feeling.
“Performing is what we love doing. When you see people singing and dancing to songs you have written, it’s a feeling that’s hard to describe really. When we first launched the band we never dreamed that one day we’d be playing music festivals and seeing people sing along to our tracks. It gives you a huge adrenaline boost when you’re on stage. We really put everything into a performance, so when we can see the crowd really getting into it as well, that’s the best feeling in the world.”
Now that the band members have finished university they will be sticking together and working on a new album. Jamie continued: “We’re quite lucky in a sense that we all live close to each other. Two of us live in Cheltenham and Dom lives in Evesham so that makes things easy for us. We’re in the process of mixing and editing our new album and have got some more gigs coming up that we’ll be announcing soon.
“We all help out. Dom is a great songwriter but we all chip in when it comes to writing. We’ve got a real mixed bag of musical influences. Jack enjoys jazz and R&B, Dom’s into indie and folk and I’m into a bit of everything really. We don’t tend to have goals, we just want to carry on doing what we love and continue on an upward curve.”
