Movie fans were invited to special screenings of ‘IT: Chapter 2’ and ‘Angel Has Fallen’ last week as Cineworld Cheltenham revealed the result of their recent renovation.

The work on the cinema in The Brewery Quarter began in January and has seen the introduction of a new 4DX screen and a ViP area.

The ViP area encompasses what used to be The Screening Rooms, with three intimate screens complete with reclining seats, a bar, and a restaurant seating area, with buffet and cinema snacks all included in the cost of a ViP ticket.

Following London, Glasgow and Sheffield, Cheltenham is the fourth Cineworld in the UK to have a ViP experience on offer.

The new 4DX screen provides a multi-sensory way of experiencing a film, with wind and water effects, moving seats, strobe lighting and fog machines that all synchronise with the film.

The Local Answer team was invited along to experience both the ViP and 4DX films, and it’s fair to say we were very impressed.

The ViP film experience is perfect if you want to make a night of it – enjoy some food and drinks before settling into your extra comfy seats to watch a film.

4DX on the other hand is a bit more ‘high octane’ – especially if you go to see a horror like ‘IT: Chapter 2’.

When characters run, your seat jolts about as if you are running with them. When someone is punched, you are prodded in the back and a blast of air shoots past you.

If it rains, a squirt of water erupts from the seat to give you a light soaking – though the seats also feature a ‘Water on/off’ button, which I opted for during a scene involving a heavy downpour.

The 4DX definitely makes you feel as though you are a part of the film – but if you’re apprehensive about it I would recommend seeing a slightly more laid back film for your first experience!

Cineworld have also improved their existing screens for 2D and 3D films – with taller and wider screens, better sound systems and new seats for all.
