Tamsin Grainger is set to become the first ever Miss Gloucester to represent the city at two Miss England finals.
On Saturday 15th June Tamsin made it through the semi-finals in Leicester, winning the charity round for her work with not-for-profit organisations in Gloucestershire.
“It was absolutely terrifying,” she said. “I thought I might win the Wildcard round so when I didn’t I convinced myself I wasn’t through.
“Then when they announced it I gasped, broke down in tears and gave my mum a big hug!”
Tamsin was chosen to go through to the finals thanks to her tireless efforts raising money for local charities such as Teckles animal shelter and HAVING, who help homeless people in Gloucester.
She ended up raising over £10,000 through various fundraising events and activities, which convinced the judges to award her the prize.
She continued: “I’m honoured to go to the finals representing not only Gloucester but also Gloucestershire as the only finalist from the county this year.
“It’s something that has never happened before, so I feel quite a lot of pressure. I’m nervous but also really excited.”
Tamsin is now preparing for the finals, which take place on Wednesday 31st July and Thursday 1st August in Newcastle. The final is hosted by the Gainford Group with Mauritius Tourism sponsoring.
The finals consist of a number of different rounds, including sports, talent and charity.
“I’m really looking forward to the TV presenting round,” added Tamsin. “Miss England are starting their own channel and the winner of the round will have the chance to present on it.
“I’m going to be interviewing people and filming all around Gloucester – I want to use the opportunity to promote the city as much as possible.
“There’s also an optional ‘bare face’ round this year, which encourages us to not wear makeup which is really cool.”
For Tamsin, the competition is an opportunity to help put Gloucester on the map.
While winning the title of Miss England is obviously the main goal, bettering her place of 25th at last year’s contest and raising the cities’ profile would be more than enough, she says.
“If I could come in the top five I’d be ecstatic,” she added. “Top 20 would be great, and I’d like to get top 10 in quite a few of the rounds.
“It’s key for me to promote the city as much as I can.”
Jason Smith of Marketing Gloucester, one of Tamsin’s sponsors, added: “As representative of nearly 600 businesses in the city and responsible for developing pride of place and promoting the city we really value the modern Miss England competition and couldn’t have asked for a better ambassador for our city than Tamsin.
“She is an empowered, intelligent, socially aware individual who gives her all for our community. We wish her every luck for the finals and have no doubt that she has raised the profile of the city.”Other Images
