The Winchcombe Country Show has been one of the most popular events in the town for seven decades.
A staple in the annual events calendar, the show combines everything found in a traditional country show with events and activities for all the family to enjoy.
“There will be a traditional flower show with many prize-winning exhibits to see, great entertainment for all, local foods to sample and lots of stalls selling local crafts and gifts,” said Diane Brooks, Publicity Officer for the show.
“The Flower Show is at the heart of the Winchcombe Country Show. There will also be a variety of classes including floral displays, arts, crafts, photography, cookery and preserves with over 50 cups to win.”
This year the show is celebrating its 70th anniversary, and also marking the 50th anniversary of the historic Apollo 11 moon landings.
The event takes places on Bank Holiday Monday 26th August, from 12pm to 5.30pm, at Winchcombe School.
It begins with a traditional procession through Winchcombe, starting at 11:30am from the Abbey Field Community Centre.
“There will be vintage tractors, fancy dress contestants and the Happenstance Border Morris Dancers,” added Diane. “The procession will arrive at the site for the opening of the show at noon.”
Entertainment will include go karting, a traditional Punch and Judy show and much more, as Diane explains.
She said: “This year’s main event will be an incredible BMX show where the riders will fly through the air performing the most breath-taking tricks and stunts.
“Dog friendly games will include dog scurry, terrier racing and dog displays. Please bring your dogs with you!”
There will be various refreshment stands including a tea tent serving homemade cakes, and also a licensed bar.
The show will also feature many stalls selling gifts and produce alongside stalls with information about local charities, clubs and activities that are in the area.
“It’s a community event and everyone involved is a volunteer,” added Diane.
“Profits raised from the show go to local charities and organisations. We raised nearly £10,000 from last year’s show.”
Tickets cost £5 per adult and £2 per child, and family tickets (two adults and up to three children) will be £12.
