The Newent Onion Fayre is set to return this September with three stages of live music, street entertainers, dancing, fairground rides, exhibitions, a Dog Show and lakeside events.

This is the 24th year of the Fayre and organisers are expecting around 15,000 or so visitors to attend on Saturday 14th September.

There’s going to be plenty for everyone including the circus themed Funion Zone where children can clown around and learn circus skills.

There will also be approximately 150 stands with arts, crafts and plants and a Food Village, offering international cuisine from the likes Mexico, the Caribbean, America and Spain as well as local breads, cakes and ice cream, will be set up in the Co-op car park. Eat drink and relax in the Acoustic tent with local live music.

Amidst the fun, there is some serious competition amongst the onion growers. Affiliated to the National Vegetable Society (NVS), Newent Onion Fayre's Allium Championships, which takes place in the Memorial Hall, now includes leeks, chives, garlic and shallots.

And entries are coming in for the world-famous onion eating competition, in which each round of 10 people competes to eat a 7oz onion as fast as possible.

Entry to the Fayre is free, with car parking costing £5 for cars and £15 for coaches, which includes the 36-page programme.
