Gordon Duff is most well known as the owner of John Gordons Bar, in Montpellier, Cheltenham. But he is also an accomplished artist. He is currently exhibiting at Chapel Arts Gallery in Cheltenham.
The Local Answer asked Gordon some quick fire questions about his art and life in the town.
Are you local to Cheltenham?
“Yes I am and I have lived here for 19 years.”
Favourite or most inspirational place in Gloucestershire?
“Other than John Gordons Bar, I love Montpellier Gardens.”
When did you realise you had a talent for art?
“Well I suppose my parents realised I might be able to draw. Talent is left for others to decide!”
Are there any artists you take inspiration from? If so, who and why?
“I’m a big fan of Van Gogh and Caravaggio, and I’m fascinated by colour and detail.”
What is your dream project?
“Running a top gallery in London.”
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
“Try drawing on bigger canvases. Don’t draw too small.”
If you had one tip for aspiring artists what would it be?
“Observation is key. Enjoy.”
Gordon’s exhibition, titled ‘No Hiding Place’, will be at Chapel Arts from Wednesday 10th to Saturday 27th July, with a free drop-in talk on Saturday 20th July (11am-12pm) when Gordon will be available to answer questions about his work.
