Swimmer Alex Cohoon is in great spirits as he counts down the days to his first Olympic Games.

The 21-year-old Fairford flier will compete for Team GB in the 4x100 metres freestyle relay in Paris and he says he can’t wait to get started.

“The prep is going really well,” the one-time Cirencester Swimming Club member told The Local Answer.

“I’ve just had my kitting out day in Birmingham where I got all my kit such as the opening and closing ceremony outfits, plus my day-to-day Team GB outfits.

“I’m now in Turkey on training camp before racing in Rome which is something I’m really looking forward to.”

The former Farmor’s School pupil, who is now a student at Loughborough University, will swim alongside Matthew Richards, Duncan Scott and Tom Dean in the relay in the French capital next month, although at this stage he does not know which leg he will be swimming.

“If I had to guess, it would be the second or third leg,” he said.

Richards, Scott and Dean were all gold medal winners at the previous Olympics in Tokyo so Cohoon is very much the new boy in town.

“Yeah, the nerves come in and out, but it’s normal to be feeling some nerves,” he said. “I’m fully focused on the job and excited to get out there and do something special.”

And doing something special means finishing in the top three.

“I think walking away with a medal is the goal,” he added.

The Paris Olympics run from Friday 26th July to Sunday 11th August.
