East Glos junior and Wycliffe College pupil Harry Bloomfield is star turn as England youngsters win Five Nations title

Harry Bloomfield is an England star after helping their under-13 team to win the Five Nations Squash tournament in Dublin.
And the East Glos Club junior, a pupil at Wycliffe College, was certainly a major force at the three-day event, playing a key role in his country’s success.
He won the decisive rubber against the French to clinch the title.
The team were made up of three boys and two girls and England started well, beating Scotland on day one and following up with wins over Wales and Ireland on the second day.
The tournament decider was England against France on the last day, with the match coming down to the final rubber, which Bloomfield had to win for England to retain their trophy.
And some match-up it was too with Bloomfield pulling out all the stops to win 3-11, 11-9, 12-10, 9-11, 11-6.
Bloomfield handled the pressure of playing in front of a large crowd superbly and is now looking forward to more success in future.
“To represent my country is a huge honour and we’re delighted to have won the overall title and gold medal,” he said. “I will continue to train hard and hopefully achieve many more England honours.”
Tania Bailey, High Performance Coach at England Squash, spoke of her delight at England’s showing.
“The Five Nations event was fantastic and one of the best ones I’ve attended,” she said. “The players bonded so well as a team and supported each other throughout the weekend.
“In the under-13s, it was the closest final we have ever encountered. The players gave it their all. With it all resting on Harry, he showed amazing mental strength and determination to win in five.”Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
