Nathan Lake and Julianne Courtice triumph in Gloucestershire County Closed tournament
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Thursday, 12th April 2018, 09:10
Squash star Nathan Lake justified his number one seeding by winning the annual Gloucestershire County Closed tournament.
This year’s event took place at East Glos in Cheltenham and 25-year-old Lake, who is ranked inside the world’s top 50, defeated Jonny Harford in straight sets in the final.
The ladies’ tournament was won by Julianne Courtice, who is ranked 47 in the world and originally played her squash at Riverside in Gloucester.
She defeated Haley Mendez, an American who is ranked in the world’s top 45, 3-0.
There were also B and C tournaments for the men as well as an over-45s competition and the tournament attracted more than 60 entries.
Dan Heaton, of Gloucestershire Squash, said: It was a really good turnout player wise and spectators. It was probably the best since the 80s.
“A big thank you to Mark Toseland of Gloucestershire Squash for organising the event.”
Full results, men’s A daw: Nathan Lake 3-0 Jonny Harford. Men’s B draw: Jack Bloomfield (junior) 3-1 Matt Boal. Men’s C draw: Jim Musto (junior) 3-2 Joe McGrath (junior). Women’s draw: Julianne Courtice 3-0 Haley Mendez. Over-45s draw: Craig Webb 3-2 Ian Bloomfield.Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
