Why Cirencester Athletics Club’s Summer Sizzler is so special
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Saturday, 25th May 2019, 09:00
June is always a very good month.
The summer is up and running, the nights are light and the sun is shining (hopefully!).
It’s also the month when the ever-popular Cirencester Park Summer Sizzler takes place and as usual the entries are filling up fast for a race organised by Cirencester Athletics Club.
This year’s event takes place on Wednesday 12th June (7.30pm) and Cirencester AC publicity officer Liza Darroch said: “It’s a wonderful event, it gives runners the opportunity to race on a midweek summer’s evening and that doesn’t happen very often.
“Being able to run in the beautiful Cirencester Park on a summer’s evening make this a very special event.
“It’s a lovely surface and it has a very different atmosphere to an ordinary Sunday morning race.
“The park normally closes at 5pm so it’s something for everyone to enjoy.”
The Summer Sizzler – in its fifth year in Cirencester Park – is a Gloucestershire AAA championship race with cash prizes to the first three male, female and age groups winners.
There is also a team prize – three to count – and a bespoke medal for all finishers. To enter this year’s race, visit www.entrycentral.com
Last year’s race was won by Cirencester AC runner Dave Bell in a time of 33 minutes, 21.1 seconds and this year there could be as many as 800 runners taking part.
There will also be a junior race over three kilometres which gets under way at 6.30pm.
The junior age groups are under-9, under-11, under-13 and under-15. There will be awards for each age group with entries taken from 6pm on the night.Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
