The Stroud Half Marathon, which was first run more than 40 years ago, is proving as popular as ever.

This year’s race takes place on Sunday and there will be plenty of people lining up for the start.

“We have just over 1,500 so far, we’re pleased with that,” said Jim Adams, the chairman of Stroud Athletic Club.

The Stroud Half is the major event on Stroud AC’s sporting calendar with the first being run in 1982.

The race has been won for the past three years by Lee Stopford. Last year he completed the 13.1-mile course in one hour, 10 minutes, 59 seconds, but there will be a different winner this year.

“I’m running the Frankfurt Marathon on Sunday,” explained the Stroud AC runner.

The Stroud Half starts and finishes on Cainscross Road, adjacent to Marling School field. It gets under way at 9am.
