Steve Kenyon took centre stage as he raced to victory in the Apperley Quarter Marathon.

The Severn Athletic Club runner stormed to victory in 37 minutes, 29 seconds, well over a minute ahead of his nearest rival.

The 38-year-old has been a serial winner of the event over the years.

Second place was taken by unattached runner Peter Duffy, who finished in 38.47, and another unattached runner, Ryan Green, was third in 41.31.

Josh Hand, of Almost Athletes, was fourth in 41.40, while his clubmate Patricia Dendy was the first female home in sixth spot in a time of 42.44.

The prizes were presented by Tewkesbury MP Cameron Thomas, who had earlier been involved in some drama of his own when he climbed a tree to reach two youngsters who had gotten into difficulty.

“They were frightened to come down, it was much easier to go up than return apparently,” said event assistant Martin Griffiths.

More than 350 runners took part in the race and Griffiths added: “The rest of the event went without incident despite one short shower.”

The Apperley Quarter Marathon raises hundreds of pounds every year for local and national charities, including breast cancer.
