Jacob Cann sets new record for Linda Franks 5 Mile
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Tuesday, 21st January 2025, 10:30
Jacob Cann smashed the course record as he raced to victory in the annual Linda Franks 5 Mile.
Cann finished in 23 minutes, 38 seconds, more than a minute-and-a-half ahead of Western Tempo’s Jacob Pickering.
“He beat the record by some margin,” said Peter Mitchener, chairman of Cheltenham-based club Almost Athletes, the race organisers. “He was very quick.”
Cann, who is in his early 20s, was running for Newham & Essex Beagles, but his parents, Neil and Di, live in Cheltenham.
Pickering, meanwhile, finished in 25 minutes, 12 seconds, and Mitchener added: “He’s very quick as well but he got nowhere near the winner. He said on social media that Jacob Cann made it look so easy, he said he never saw him!”
Last year’s winner Rob Green, of CLC Striders, finished fourth in 26 minutes, 28 seconds, which was 38 seconds slower than his 2024 time.
Mitchener, who is 59, completed the course in 34 minutes, 56 seconds and he said: “I had a good race, my aim was to finish in under 35 minutes, it was mission accomplished, I’m very pleased.”
And the race, which has been going for more than 30 years, continues to be a big success.
“It’s always popular,” continued Mitchener. “Everybody seemed to enjoy themselves.”Other Images
