Valentine’s Day has only just been and gone but Phillip Howells’ love for all things running shows no signs of wavering.

That’s because the remarkable 72-year-old has already run three marathons this year and he’s planning to take part in another this Saturday.

Readers of The Local Answer will know that Howells is hoping to complete 333 marathons – made up of road races, trail marathons and ultra marathons - before he hangs up his running shoes for good.

“My most recent marathon was in Milton Keynes,” said Howells, who is a member of Tewkesbury Running Club. “That was my 288th. I ran five hours, 49 minutes, I was quite pleased with that.”

Howells hopes to complete his 300th marathon later this year and race number 289 will take him to Waltham on Thames on Saturday.

“The 100 Marathon Club AGM takes place in the morning and then there’s a marathon in the afternoon,” explained Howells.
