Record number of finishers in this year’s Summer Sizzler
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Monday, 17th June 2019, 15:10
This year’s Summer Sizzler – the ever-popular 10K organised by Cirencester Athletics Club in June – proved a great success even though it drizzled rather than sizzled.
There were a record number of finishers – 640 – and they were led home by the impressive Bill Leggate, who continued his fine run of form to snatch victory.
The V40 runner was ably supported by Simon Campbell and Mark Sysum to win the team prize, while Kate Sackett was first FV55 and Ruth Fulford first FV70.
Cirencester results. 1st Bill Leggate 34.21 – 1st V40,13 Simon Campbell 37.57, 14 Mark Sysum 38.00, 47 Alex Chudley 41.08, 67 Leigh Guilbert 42.22, 91 Joyce Matthews 44.20, 101 Kate Sackett 45.00 – 1st FV55, 163 Karen Higuera 47.36, 170 Gemma Lund 47.48, 203 Louise Horner-Baggs 49.24, 271 Kerrie Wallis 51.36, 348 Elisabeth Butler 54.55, 375 Helen Shaftoe 55.40, 423 Peter Rowland 58.00, 461 Ella Shaftoe 59.56, 467 Barbara Thomas 1.00.10, 490 Ruth Fulford 1.01.10 – 1st FV70, 550 Lisa Stevens 1.05.12
640 finished.
There was more good news for Cirencester AC yesterday because Dave Bell eased to victory in the Bourton Hilly Half, finishing in one hour, 14 minutes, 34 seconds. Simon Campbell came sixth and first V40 in 1.25.06.
Heavy rain and a strong head wind made it tough for competitors in a race that saw 67 finish.Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
