Cheltenham Harriers runner Ben Price is so happy as he defends Cheltenham Half Marathon title

Ben Price made it a fabulous one-two when he was the first runner to cross the line in this year’s Cheltenham Half Marathon.

The Cheltenham Harrier followed up last year’s success by finishing in a time of one hour, nine minutes, 50 seconds yesterday, which was more than 40 seconds quicker than his time in 2017.

Running is something that the 37-year-old has been concentrating on only for the past few years – he joined the Harriers nine years ago – and when he spoke to The Local Answer a couple of weeks ago, he said he was desperate to try to retain his Cheltenham Half Marathon title.

“I’d love to win it again,” he said. “It was amazing to do it last year and I’d love to defend my title, it was an amazing feeling and I’m going to try to recapture that.”

Cheltenham Harriers featured strongly among the leading runners with Alex Lee the third runner to cross the line in 1:10:39 followed by John Parker in 1:11:08.

Oli Mott was the sixth runner over the line in 1:12:50, Joseph Willgoss was eighth in 1:14:18 and James Bingham ninth in 1:14:29.

The fastest competitor on the day was Ed Grazier of Wheelchair Cheltenham and County Harriers. The wheelchair event is a separate race from the half marathon even though it followed the same course and Grazier finished in the excellent time of one hour, eight minutes, 31 seconds.
