Jim Adams is looking forward to the next few weeks.
That’s because the club of which he is chairman, Stroud and District Athletic Club, are putting on two races that are always popular with runners in and around Gloucestershire.
The first is the Standish Woodland Chase on Sunday 12th August and is followed by Woodchester Park on Sunday 2nd September. Both races are run over about eight miles and start at 10am but that is where the similarities end.
“The Standish Woodland Chase starts at the bottom of Horse Marling Lane in Stonehouse and the competitors have to run all the way up the hill into the woods,” explained Adams.
“They’re very tired by the time they reach the woods and then they have to do two circuits of the woods which are very undulating.
“Then it’s a mad dash back down to the finish.
“It’s the complete opposite of Woodchester Park which starts just above the National Trust car park. The runners race down the drive – it’s a big fast downhill start.
“Then they do a lap of Woodchester Park which takes them round the lakes and Woodchester mansion before a difficult finish back up the drive.”
Entries for both races are accepted on the day.
