Q&A, My Sporting Life – Richard Bufton, Bourton Road Runners
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Wednesday, 24th May 2017, 08:00, Tags: Q&A
Name: Richard Bufton
Date of birth: 10/04/64
Birthplace: Sheffield
Schools: Worksop College
Occupation: Retail
Where live: Bourton-on-the-Water
Your sport: Running
Your position: Help with the junior club at Bourton Road Runners and with the overseas trips.
Club: Bourton Road Runners
Best achievement/result and why: Seeing the junior club grow every year. Good to introduce children to a great sport and running is the basis of all sport. Sport is also so important to children’s health and wellbeing.
Best team-mate you played with and why: Raced against and trained with so many people over the years, very lucky.
Best opponent and why: I had many rivals over the years both in our club and in the county.
Best manager/coach you played for and why: Norman Lane of Bourton Road Runners. He gave up a lot of his time to train a group of us for many years. A very positive, inspirational and hospitable person to be around. We also had a great time.
Best thing and worst thing about your sport today: Best – a sport you can do anywhere and anytime. Still a lot of very well organised events, for example, the London Marathon, and a very friendly and sociable sport. Worst – not enough young people in the sport in the 20-30 age group.
What is your involvement in sport today? Help with the junior club and try to stay injury free so I can still compete when I can.
What do you think you will be doing sporting wise in five years’ time? Hopefully still with the juniors and competing myself.Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
