Ready, steady, go for the Tewkesbury Half Marathon on Sunday, May 14

Organisers of the Tewkesbury Half Marathon are hoping that as many 1,000 runners will be under starter’s orders for this year’s spectacular.
That will be up 200 on the number who lined up last year which in turn was 200 more than in 2015.
This year’s race on Sunday, May 14, is the third one organised by Andy Heyes, Mark Dowden and Dave Bray and Heyes, a runner himself, said this was just the start.
“We’re in it for the long haul,” he explained.
“We started the Oxford Half Marathon in 2011 and it now attracts thousands of runners.
“Tewkesbury Borough Council contacted us and asked us if we’d like to submit a bid to organise the half marathon and here we are.
“In its heyday the race attracted 2,000 runners but the numbers had dwindled to as low as 300.
“It’s picking up again and we’ve had great support from Moog, the main sponsor, and the council.
This year’s race over 13.1 miles will start and finish at Tewkesbury Leisure Centre with the race getting under way at 10am. Online entries close on May 5.
Last year’s race was won by Alex Lee in a time of one hour, 12 minutes, 29 seconds.Other Images
