Stuart Holloway wins this year’s Tewkesbury Half Marathon

Stuart Holloway raced to victory in the Tewkesbury Half Marathon yesterday.

The City of Salisbury runner clocked an impressive one hour, 10 minutes, 44 seconds to finish more than half a minute ahead of his nearest rival.

It is the fastest time recorded over the past three years since the race has been organised by Andy Heyes.

Mark Ryall, of Marshall Milton Keynes, was second in one hour, 15 minutes, 19 seconds, and Mike Clark, of South Molton Strugglers, was a further two minutes and 41 seconds adrift in third place.

David Tomlin was the first Gloucestershire runner home in fourth spot. The Cheltenham and County Harrier completed in one hour, 18 minutes, 57 seconds.

Heyes was delighted with the way the event went, which this year coincided with the town’s Big Weekend Festival.

“It was brilliant; really, really good,” he said. “We’ve had a massive positive feedback. It was excellent so it’s a case of onwards and upwards.”

Heyes has already turned his attention to next year’s half marathon.

“We’ll definitely be running it again in 2018,” he said. “We had about 950 entries this year and 850 finishers. Next year we want 1,200 finishers.”
