Cheltenham North will play host to a special guest on Sunday.
The president of the Rugby Football Union, Nigel Gillingham, will be at Stoke Road to watch the club’s ladies’ team play against Camp Hill Ladies (kick-off 2pm).
“It’s quite significant,” said Cheltenham North president Paul Carter. “He’s the president of the RFU, he’s coming to the North to see all the things we’ve been doing.”
And the club, whose flagship men’s team play in Counties 1 Western North, have certainly been busy in the past few months with the most eye-catching development the installation of six new floodlights back in the summer.
The women’s team, meanwhile, are in their second season and Carter is delighted with the way they are developing.
“They’re building really nicely,” said Carter. “They’re becoming a very good senior ladies’ team.
“Player/manager Fiona Hurt has done a really good job, as have the coaches Scott Laird and Dave Payne.”
Sunday’s showpiece occasion will be the culmination of a busy 48 hours at the club.
The under-16 girls host Dings Crusaders in the National Under-16 Cup tonight (7.30pm) for a place in the last 16, while tomorrow the men’s 1st XV entertain Barton Hill in a league game.Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
