RFU Community Cup Counties 3 Central Plate victory was a win for the whole club, says director of rugby Josh McNulty

Cheltenham Saracens director of rugby Josh McNulty is still savouring the moment after the club’s “monumental” win at the weekend.
The club enjoyed the greatest moment in their history when they won the RFU Community Cup Counties 3 Central Plate in Coventry on Sunday.
They beat Sittingbourne 43-27 and McNulty, who took on the role of director of rugby midway through the season, said: “What a win. The team, the squad, the club, everyone was delighted after that one.”
Saracens raced into a 26-5 half-time lead after withstanding an early barrage from the Counties 3 Kent champions and took their try tally to seven late in the game despite a second-half rally by Sittingbourne.
“I think we earned the right to win that game,” McNulty said.
“Sittingbourne in the first 10 minutes threw absolutely everything at us, kitchen sink and all but the lads’ defence and sheer tenacity to keep them out, then to turn over and go the length of the pitch for the first try was the start of a statement piece of our game.”
That try was scored by Louis Capaldi, the first of two for the centre, and McNulty continued: “There’s not many times you can watch a rugby game and every single man involved in the team plays out of their skin like the 1-22 did.”
Saracens are celebrating their 50th anniversary season so the success could not have come at a better time for the Counties 3 Gloucestershire North club.
“It’s monumental for the club,” said McNulty. “What a perfect way to solidify a moment in history, bringing back a new trophy to the club.
“The 1-22 were amazing but I don’t want to take away from all those who weren’t on the pitch.
“That win was a club win. From the players and coaching/backroom staff to our board and supporters.
“We had an amazing travelling support to the game and they filled the stadium with noise which made it all that more special to bring it home like the lads did.
“To say I’m proud is an understatement.”
