Minchinhampton captain Ben Jones in determined mood as they take on Old Patesians

John Fenley, left, and Wyatt Dundas were among the try-scorers for Old Patesians against Minchinhampton on SaturdayMinchinhampton skipper Ben Jones missed his side’s 112-5 mauling at Old Patesians last weekend but he returns on Saturday when they’re playing – would you believe? – Old Patesians again.
Last Saturday’s game at Everest Road was a re-arranged Counties 3 Gloucestershire North fixture, which is why the two clubs are facing each other again so soon.
And 29-year-old Jones, who is in his third season as captain, is determined that Minchinhampton put on a much better showing this time around.
Ask him what he considers would be a good result on Saturday and he says quite simply: “A win.”
And while that is going to be no easy task against a side who still have a chance of winning the title, Jones insists that Minchinhampton need a positive mindset.
“I know they beat us heavily last week but if we can make a good start and get in front, it’s never easy to come back,” he said.
“We all know that anything can happen in sport.
“We’re not afraid of them, we’re not going to give up, we’ll play every team that is put in front of us.”
Minchinhampton are currently 10th in the 11-strong division, seven places and 45 points behind Pats, who were playing four divisions above them in the old South West 1 West last season.
Minchinhampton finished fifth in Gloucestershire 2 North in 2021/22, two points and one place below current Counties 3 Gloucestershire North leaders Stroud, and Jones, a wing or centre, said: “It’s been tougher this season, we’re playing at a higher level.”Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
