In-form Smiths face Cheltenham in Cheltenham Combination Senior Cup

Cheltenham Tigers will return to their old stomping ground in this season’s Cheltenham and District Combination Cup.
The Regional 2 Severn club have been drawn away to Smiths in the Senior Cup, which means a trip to the Prince of Wales Stadium, the place they called home for many years before their move to the Newlands.
Cheltenham play two divisions above Smiths but they won’t be taking anything for granted against one of the most in-form teams in Gloucestershire.
Smiths are looking to clinch back-to-back titles this season and, with three games to play, lead the way in Counties 2 Gloucestershire North after winning the old Gloucestershire 1 North in 2021/22.
Four teams have entered this season’s Senior Cup and the other game sees holders Stow-on-the Wold travel to Cheltenham North.
Last season’s Senior Cup runners-up, Old Patesians, are playing in the Junior Cup this time around, with the Counties 3 Gloucestershire North side facing a trip to either Cheltenham North 2nds or Smiths 2nds in the semi-finals.
The current strength of Smiths is shown by the fact that they have entered a 3rd XV in this year’s Minor Shield. They will host Gloucestershire Police in the first round in a competition that also sees a combined Norton and Cheltenham Civil Service side.
They have a bye into the last four when they will travel to the winners of the tie between Cheltenham Tigers 3rds and Old Patesians 2nds.
Finals day will take place at the Newlands on Saturday 29th April.
