Coney Hill produce stunning six-try show to sink high-flying Woodrush and move into quarter-finals of the RFU Community Cup

Coney Hill produced a standout performance to march into the last eight of the RFU Community Cup at the Metz Way on Saturday.
They demolished Woodrush 45-22 in the Counties 3 & Below Championship, a result that was all the more impressive because the visitors have been sweeping all before them in Counties 3 Midlands West (South) this season.
“Our boys raised their game to a level which they haven’t done for two years,” said head of rugby Ryan Barnett. “We were excellent, it was an all-round team effort.”
It certainly was with the six tries being shared equally between forwards and backs.
Riley Roberts, Leo Hall, Jake Marsh, Liam Urquart, Joe Porter and Finbar Baker were their try-scorers, with Ash Lewis converting all six and also landing a penalty.
Barnett was particularly pleased that second row Urquart was on the scoresheet.
“He fractured his skull a year ago, he didn’t play for 11 months,” Barnett said.
“This was his first start since his injury, his work-rate was incredible.”
Woodrush have won all 11 of their league games this season and Barnett, who went on as a replacement for the injured Hall after 15 minutes, said: “It’s been a tough season but hopefully this result is the catalyst for a strong second half of the season.
“We trained really well for this game. The numbers at training were good and the availability was good.
“The next round isn’t until May but it gives us something to look forward to for the rest of the season.”
Coney Hill, who are captained by scrum-half Joe Twomey, are joined in the quarter-finals by fellow Counties 3 Gloucestershire North club Hucclecote, who won 64-17 at North Bristol.Copyright © 2026 The Local Answer Limited.
