Cheltenham Saracens' new look will be a throwback to 1975

Cheltenham Saracens will be rolling back the years in the next few weeks.
The Counties 3 Gloucestershire North club will be going back all the way to 1975 as they continue to celebrate their 50th anniversary.
“We’re getting a new first-team kit,” said chairman Joe White. “We’ve gone back to the original colours of 50 years ago – blue shorts, blue shirts with a thick yellow hoop around the middle and a collar, it’s proper retro.”
The kit won’t be ready in time for Saturday’s home league game against league leaders Hucclecote, however, a game that could see Saracens leapfrog the Gloucester club in the 12-strong table.
Hucclecote have won three out of three, scoring 196 points along the way, but Saracens have won two games, leaving them two places and four points adrift of the early pacesetters.
“It’s obviously a big game,” continued White. “The aim for us this season is to finish in the top three, if we can win on Saturday that could set the season up nicely for us.”
Hucclecote finished seventh in Counties 2 Gloucestershire North last season but the formation of Counties 2 Gloucestershire for 2025/26 meant they were one of seven teams who dropped down a division.
Saracens finished third in Counties 3 Gloucestershire North last season but White said: “There are some huge teams in the division now, but the boys are definitely up for it.”
Saracens have already beaten Bredon Star, who finished one place above Hucclecote in 2024/25, and the other clubs to have dropped into their division are Coney Hill, Gloucester Old Boys, Cirencester, Berry Hill and Brockworth.
Saracens’ game against Hucclecote isn’t the club’s only keenly-anticipated clash on Saturday because the 2nd XV head to Newent 2nds in Gloucester & District 2.
“That’s a really big game, Newent have just put 120 points on Cainscross,” said White.
They won 123-7 at Cainscross but Saracens 2nds have also started the season well, winning 64-7 at Bredon Star 2nds.
“That was the best I’ve seen the 2nds play for a long time,” added White.Other Images
