Q&A, My School Sports Report: Ian Roberts
Cotswold > Sport > Rugby Union
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Wednesday, 24th May 2017, 08:00, Tags: Q&A
Name: Ian Roberts
Date of birth: April 25, 1961
Birthplace: Cheltenham
Occupation: Company director
Schools: Grey House, Stow-on-the-Wold (1965-19721); Wycliffe College (1972-1978)
Your sport at school: Rugby and swimming.
Your position: Hooker, and prop if I had to.
How did you get involved? Rugby was the main sport at Wycliffe.
Best achievement/result and why: Playing for Gloucester United and winning the Cheltenham Combination Senior Cup for Stow in 1990.
Your best coach at school and why: Keith Richardson (ex-Gloucester player and coach) – as an ex-front row himself he taught me the tricks of the trade along with a very good sports ethos.
Other sports played at school: A little football and cricket.
Did you continue to play sport after school and if so for whom? Rugby for Stow and a brief spell at Gloucester.
What is your involvement in sport today – watching or playing? Coach Stow Under-16s and trustee of the club.
How do we get more of today's youngsters involved in sport? Try and convince them it is better to play sport than watch it on TV and tell them the special friendships that sport can bring.Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
