All Golds find it tough going against Torfaen Tigers

The All Golds slipped to a 38-10 Southern Conference defeat at Torfaen Tigers despite an opening 20 minutes that saw the visitors in the ascendancy for significant periods.
However, poor execution and decision-making led to a cluster of try-scoring opportunities being frittered away.
A side with the firepower of Torfaen Tigers was not likely to spurn such a fortuitous set of circumstances and so it was to prove.
After an All Golds mistake in their own backyard the resultant scrum saw the men in orange handle the ball swiftly via their left hand side and Sam Taylor finished well in the corner.
The encounter continued in a seesaw manner and a high bomb caused confusion in the Torfaen ranks enabling the excellent Tom Gaffney to regain possession and race through the home side’s defence but his off load to Luke Stephens was fumbled with the line wide open.
Stephens, who is a fine player, was held up shortly afterwards over the Tigers’ try line before the home side stretched their advantage through Josh Hurley who picked his way around the pursuing defenders to touch down. Dai Thomas converted and the Tigers led 10-0 at the halfway point.
Events swung the way of the Western Division leaders in decisive manner 10 minutes into the second period when Grant Harrington sent Nathan Touhig over and a short while later Kyle Scrivens powered through under the sticks.
Thomas added the extras and at 20-0 the Tigers were set for a comfortable triumph. Jarad Hinnem was next on the scoresheet as he brushed off would-be tacklers to touchdown. Thomas again goaled.
The All Golds still had their moments but a determined finish by Eauan Morris and a Dai Thomas supplement made it 32-0.
This led to a flurry of fine play by the All Golds which resulted in a quickfire double for Brandon Lamb who impressed in the number 1 jersey at full-back.
Rhys Evans tacked on a conversion but the final points of the day rightfully fell to Torfaen as Eauan Morris completed his brace. Thomas converted again.Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
