Run-machine Jack Galpin is leading from the front for Winchcombe
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Friday, 12th June 2026, 09:00
Winchcombe skipper Jack Glapin has scored a remarkable 311 runs in his last three innings for twice out.
No wonder the 32-year-old says he “feels like I'm in the form of my life”.
His runs have come at a very good pace, too, most notably against Hatherley Reddings 3rds nearly two weeks ago when he smashed 125 from 94 balls.
That wasn’t enough to prevent his side from sliding to a 30-run defeat in Division Five of the Gloucestershire League but his other two innings were in winning causes.
He made 110 from 88 balls in the 62-run success over Goodrich and then six days ago was unbeaten on 76 from 77 balls to secure a five-wicket win over Langford.
That victory lifted Winchcombe up to third place in the table but it was his century against Goodrich that pleased him the most.
“It was my first one since I joined the club two-and-a-half years ago,” he said. "The nice thing about that was that I was batting with my little brother Harry Davies.
“We put on 220 for the third wicket after being 13-2.”
Davies made 86 from 81 balls and Galpin, who also keeps wicket, continued: “It’s been a three good weeks, we’ve had three good pitches. Hopefully the pitches will get even better!”
His only ‘failure’ in the league this season came early last month in the seven-wicket defeat against Down Hatherley when he was dismissed for 19, but he is still averaging 110.
“I had a good year last year,” said the former Bourton Vale player, who is in his second season as captain. “I averaged 75, I had quite a few not outs.
“I made 98 in one game and then smashed it to cover.”
He scored nearly 800 runs last season and this season is hoping to reach 1,000.
Winchcombe, who won Division 6A last season, travel to play bottom-of-the-table Cricklade tomorrow.
