Cheltenham Town footballers pictured with some happy youngsters in support of the ‘Bowlsfest’ family event in aid of Special Olympics Gloucestershire at Cheltenham Bowling ClubCheltenham Town are on a bit of a roll this season – their 2-0 win at Salford City on Saturday lifted them into the top six in League Two – and some of their players were still on a roll some 24 hours after they’d defeated the club part-owned by Gary Neville and some of his old Manchester United team-mates.
That’s because they had a date at Cheltenham Bowling Club in Suffolk Square in support of a ‘Bowlsfest’ family event in aid of Special Olympics Gloucestershire.
It was Cheltenham Bowling Club’s first ‘Bowlsfest’ and Cheltenham Town footballers Alex Addai, Dan Bowery, Sean Long and Jonte Smith were special guests along with Cheltenham MP Alex Chalk and Cheltenham Rugby Club, who were winners of the community bowling tournament.
The day included lots of opportunities for people with learning disabilities and the special guests took part in the bowling competitions and obstacle courses to help raise £2,000 for Special Olympics Gloucestershire, a charitable project designed to empower and inspire children and young people with disabilities through sport.
The project does this through providing access sports and physical activity through various ‘Taster Day’ events throughout the year, like the Bowlsfest, as well as ‘Hub Clubs’ that operate all year round.
The project also provides a pathway into competition. For more information on the Special Olympics project, visit Active Gloucestershire website or contact Chris Davis at Chrisdavis@activegloucestershire.org.Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
