Five Stroud League clubs are chasing County Cup glory
Stroud District > Sport > Football

A ‘famous five’ of Stroud League teams fill the eight GFA County Cup (North) final places this season.
At least two of the cups will be won by Stroud League teams, as both the Junior and Minor finals are an all-Stroud League affairs.
Hardwicke Reserves and Tetbury Town will contest the Junior Cup. Both teams have struggled in the league at times this season, but both are in recent good form.
It looks like being a tight game too as the teams have met twice in Division One this season and both have resulted in draws.
Tetbury are competing in their second County Cup Final in three seasons, having won the Junior Cup two years ago. Hardwicke Reserves last reached a County Cup Final in 2014, only to lose on penalties.
Ramblers are the league's representation in the Intermediate Cup, and they will play Cirencester League Frattellos, a Swindon-based team currently playing their home games at South Cerney.
Ramblers, who play in Division Two, also have a recent pedigree in the County Cups, having reached the same final in 2017, only to lose out to fellow Stroud League club McCadam, who have now disbanded. Ramblers won the Stroud Charity Cup that season, so have experienced the ups and downs of finals in recent seasons.
In the Minor Cup, near neighbours Charfield Reserves and North Nibley will contest the final. Both teams are top of their respective divisions with Charfield leading Division Four and North Nibley the pacesetters in Division Five.
Both teams are also in the latter stages of the Stroud League's Dennis Mason Cup, meaning that they could meet again in another cup final come early May.
Tuffley Rovers 5ths came so close to causing a shock in the Primary Cup semi-final, only losing to an injury-time goal to high-flying Chesterton of the Cirencester League.
Chesterton’s supporters will be confident of overcoming North Gloucestershire League team Blakeney Reserves, but it won’t be easy because the Foresters have virtually assured promotion from Division Three this season.
Cup final dates – Junior Cup, 25th April; Intermediate Cup, 11th April; Minor Cup, 30th April; Primary Cup, 9th April.Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
