FC Lakeside Reserves are out on their own as they make it eight wins out of eight in the Cheltenham League

FC Lakeside Reserves are the only team to still boast a 100 per cent winning record in the Cheltenham League.

The Division Three team are loving life at the moment – very appropriate with Valentine’s Day just around the corner! – after their 4-1 win over Southside Star Reserves on Saturday.

That made it eight wins out of eight although they still find themselves back in fourth place because they have played considerably fewer games than all the teams above them.

Two teams in Division Four went into Saturday’s round of fixtures with unblemished records – the only two other teams in the league – but both dropped points.

Kempsey Corinthians lost 2-1 at home to leaders Tewkesbury Athletic while third-placed AFC Cheltenham at least remain unbeaten after drawing 2-2 with Fintan Reserves.

The significance of that result wasn’t lost on Fintan’s Kevin Wilcox who told The Local Answer: “We are the first team to take points off AFC Cheltenham.”

Up in Division One where leaders Tewkesbury Town stretched their lead to five points with a 9-2 win at bottom-of-the-table Newton.

Whaddon United, who are back up to second, bounced back to winning ways with a 2-0 win at AFC Renegades but the team who ended their unbeaten record in the league the previous week – Prestbury Rovers – came unstuck at home to Southside Star, losing 2-1.

Bishop’s Cleeve A have games in hand on all the other teams in the division and they cemented their position in sixth place with a 7-2 win over Hanley Swan.

Kings are just one point and one place below them after an impressive 4-0 win at Malvern Vale where Matt Hill grabbed a hat-trick. Mike Morran got their other goal.

A spokesman for Kings said: “This was a very good performance with everyone contributing to the final result.”

Cheltenham Civil Service Reserves went down 2-0 to Bredon Reserves and the only other game in the division saw the groundshare derby with Dowty Dynamos hosting their landlords Shurdington Rovers, ironically in a game that was moved to All Saints.

And it was Dynamos who took the honours with a 2-1 win courtesy of two Max Gourlay goals although Shurdington were denied a point when keeper Stuart Ford pulled off a fine save two minutes from time. The victory lifts Dynamos into the top four.

Smiths Barometrics Athletic Reserves won the big game in Division Two with the leaders winning 1-0 at St Paul’s United, who started the day in third spot.

Prestbury Rovers Reserves remain Barometrics’ closest rivals and are still two points adrift with a game in hand after their 2-1 success against Welland Reserves.

Leckhampton Rovers slipped up again, beaten 2-0 by Windyridge Rovers, and they are now level on points with improving Brockworth Albion Reserves who won 1-0 at Gala Wilton Reserves.

Andoversford Reserves continue to prop up the division after going down 2-0 to Fintan.

Smiths Barometrics Athletic III continue to lead the way in Division Three after defeating 303 Squadron 6-2 team while second-placed Cheltenham United overcame Worcester City Royals 2-1.

Third-placed Cheltenham Civil Service III eased to a 5-1 win over Tewkesbury Town Reserves while at the other end of the table, bottom team Malvern Vale Reserves won 5-4 at Falcons Reserves.

Into Division Four and Winchcombe Town Reserves climbed a place to second after a 2-1 win over Bishop’s Cleeve Development.

Woodmancote United enjoyed a 3-1 win against Cheltenham Saracens III but one of the performances of the day was by Charlton Rovers III who started the day at the bottom but won 3-0 at Gala Wilton III to climb a couple of spots.

It was only their second league win of the campaign and they are replaced at the bottom by Pittville United Reserves, who lost 2-0 to Apperley.
