Sharpness have moved level on points at the top of the County League after a 2-1 win at Rockleaze Rangers.

They are behind Frampton United and Wick, neither of whom played in the league on Saturday, only on goal difference although the top two have played one game fewer.

Fourth-placed Rockleaze are now four points behind Sharpness who started the game well with Will Lacey hitting an early effort over the bar.

Sam Strickland also had a half chance and Alex Gayner tried his luck from distance before Nick Jones had Rockleaze’s first shot on goal midway through the half.

Will Lacey saw a free-kick saved by Lewis Brodie before Sharpness went ahead when Dan Gayner made a good break down the right and his low cross into the six-yard box was turned past Brodie by brother Alex Gayner.

However, Rangers were level right on half time when Hobbs brought down Dan Webb in the box and the striker then slotted home the resulting spot kick.

Forty-three seconds into the second half and the home side almost went ahead when a long ball out of defence saw Dan Webb outpace the Sharpness rearguard before hitting a great shot that had keeper Dan Hobbs acrobatically pushing the ball away.

Ollie Woolland and George Holland both threatened for Rockleaze as they started to enjoy more possession in the second half, but it was Sharpness who snatched the points with a late, late goal in the fifth minute of time added on.

A long ball punted up field by Hobbs was picked up by Dan Gayner who struck the ball on goal. Brodie made the save but it rebounded straight back to Gayner who smashed it home.

It was a great end to a game which had seen the league link up with the GFA to stage the FA Rainbow Laces campaign with both clubs and match officials taking part.

Quedgeley Wanderers went ahead at Hanham Athletic but were 2-1 down by the break and failed to recover in the second half.

Visiting goalkeeper Nathan Charnock saved well from Jamie Fry as early as the second minute but 12 minutes later Quedgeley were ahead when Josh Wilson was put clear on goal and his miss-hit shot finished up in the back of the Hanham net.

Quedgeley’s lead was shortlived because George Cryer was on target for the home side two minutes later and just a minute later Cryer grabbed his second with a great shot from just inside the box.

The visitors tried to get back on level terms in the second half with Nathan Payne often threatening but with goalkeeper Max Heaven in fine form they could find no way through.

Hardwicke enjoyed a fine afternoon at Gala Wilton, winning 3-0.

A Will Matthews header which went over the bar was a sign of things to come and they were ahead on the half hour mark with Matthews heading home from a Richard Mansell cross.

On 42 minutes they doubled their tally with Kieren Tracey nipping in to score and they added a third a minute from time after a brilliant individual piece of skill from Steve Bick who cheekily dinked the ball past the keeper.
