Frampton United hit County League top spot after narrow win at Hardwicke

Frampton United are the new leaders of the County League after their 1-0 win at Hardwicke on Saturday.
They moved ahead on goal difference from previous pacesetters Wick, whose game against Henbury was postponed.
Matt Cook was unlucky when he struck a post early on for Frampton and the visitors were ahead soon when a brilliant shot from Ryan Vincent flew into the top corner.
Hardwicke hit back and Jordan Dowdeswell’s cross into the box found Tobie Webb but he failed to hit the target and then Webb had a great shot well saved by goalkeeper Taylor.
Five minutes into the second half Steve Jackson struck a post with a 30-yard pile driver and Kieran Squires had the ball in the Frampton net but it was ruled out for offside.
Hardwicke almost salvaged a point in the 85th minute but Will Matthews’s effort went just wide of the post.
Sharpness had to play for 58 minutes with 10 players against visiting Gala Wilton after Brad Hewer was sent off but a late goal gave them a 1-1 draw.
The home side started well and Will Lacey broke from the halfway line before shooting wide. Alex Gayner then struck a fierce shot that hit the post but after Hewer’s red card Ryan Dobbins had a chance to open the scoring for Gala which went begging.
Sharpness thought they should have had a penalty in the 72nd minute but the referee didn’t agree and two minutes later they were behind following a break down the right by Kieran Bryce-Ingles. His a cross into the box was not dealt with by the home defence and Craig Howell took full advantage.
Fin Small’s indirect free-kick took a deflection before hitting a post but the home side got their goal a minute from time when Fin Small was bundled over in the box and Dan Gayner netted from the spot kick.
Quedgeley Wanderers remain in third spot, three points behind the top two, after drawing 0-0 at home to fourth-placed Rockleaze Rangers.
Despite the scoreline there were numerous chances for both sides with Lewis Brodie saving well to deny Quedgeley’s Josh Wilson in the first minute and soon after a Ryan Webb cross was headed over by Jordan Rouse for the home side.
Then in the course of five minutes Brodie brought off three good saves to deny Nathan Payne.
At the other end Rangers’ Sam Bailey should have scored but his effort went over the bar. Just before the break Brodie was in action again, this time denying Josh Wilson.
The action continued after the break and midway through the second half home keeper Nathan Charnock made two great saves to deny Dan Webb. Both Payne and Wilson had further chances for the home side but Brodie was there to deny them.
Other results: AEK Boco 7 Patchway T 0; Broadwell Ams 1 Bromley Heath Utd 0; Little Stoke v Ruardean Hill R, abandoned; Wick v Henbury, post.Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
