Brockworth Albion looking for good County Cup run as they head to Shortwood

Brockworth Albion head to Shortwood United on Saturday for a County Senior Cup North tie with chairman David Evans saying that they are in it to win it.
The Northern Senior League Division One team will play Shortwood’s development side in the third round clash with Evans hoping that they can go a long way in this season’s competition.
It’s a competition that Brockworth have won in the past but Evans, who is also the club’s assistant manager, said: “We haven’t got anywhere in it in the last three or four years.
“The league is our bread and butter but the County Cup is a competition I want to do well in, we’ll be putting out as strong a side as possible.”
Brockworth, who are managed by Mark Mulraney, have made a healthy start to their 2019/20 league campaign having won six and drawn two of their 10 games. It has left them in fourth spot on what is a very congested leaderboard, two points behind table-topping Chalford.
Winning promotion to the County League is Brockworth’s main aim this season – Cheltenham Civil Service and Harrow Hill are the two other teams just ahead of them – but a cup run is always good for any club.
“It’s going to be tough at Shortwood,” admitted Evans. “It’s their development team so they’ll probably be young, pacey and all that jazz, but we’re confident.”
Shortwood’s development team play in Division Two West of the Hellenic League and have lost all five of their league games this season but they’ve reached the third round of the County Cup by beating Stonehouse Town Reserves 4-2 on penalties after the game ended 2-2 and Staunton and Corse 3-1.
Brockworth booked their place in the third round with a 3-1 win over Frampton United Reserves.Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
