Slimbridge gearing up for new football season

With pre-season up and running, Freddy Ward’s new squad at Slimbridge is starting to take shape.

Former Tuffley Rovers midfielder Henry Birkett has signed on and Luke Payne has also linked up with the Southern League Division One South and West club.

In his first batch of signings, Ward and new assistant manager Lee Driver-Dickerson brought in a new goalkeeper, Ollie Hall, from Longlevens.

Club stalwarts Jack Twyman, Dean Turner and Adam Mace were also among the early signatures, along with Alex Hoyle, who rejoins the club after a spell at Taunton Town, and Nathan Payne, who renews his involvement with the Swans from last season.

Thornhill Park hosts its first game of the season on Saturday when Gloucester City play Bristol Rovers in a pre-season friendly (3pm).

Slimbridge are looking to appoint a physio/sports therapist for the 2017/18 season. Anyone interested who holds an FA intermediate qualification and a first aid certificate should contact club secretary Colin Gay at Colin.Hamish@icloud.com or call him on 07702 070229.
