Cheltenham Town Football Club are taking on Peterborough United FC at Whaddon Road tomorrow in a special pre-season friendly supporting a hospice charity.
Kicking off at 3pm, Cheltenham Town, representing Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice, will take on Peterborough United, representing Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice, to compete for the Sue Ryder Salver.
Ticket prices are £10 for adults and £5 concessions with a charity bucket collection raising funds for Leckhampton Court Hospice – the Robins’ local Sue Ryder hospice.
The teams share close links, both giving support to their Sue Ryder hospices in their home towns, Leckhampton Court in Cheltenham and Thorpe Hall in Peterborough.
Sue Ryder provides incredible hospice and neurological care for people facing a frightening, life-changing diagnosis right across the UK in seven hospices and five neurological units as well as an online community offering help and advice on end of life care and bereavement.
In recognition of the support the clubs give to their local hospices the players will be competing for a special cup – the Sue Ryder Salver – and the trophy will be presented to the winning team at the end of the match.
Rob Pestell, Hospice Chaplain at Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice is a huge Cheltenham Town fan and is personally sponsoring the match ball for the occasion.
He said, “Both hospices are very grateful for the support that they receive from their local football clubs which helps them continue providing the vital care they give in their local communities. I wish both ‘The Robins’ and ‘The Posh’ a successful season ahead.”Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
