There was drama galore at Whaddon Road at the weekend and we’re not talking about Cheltenham Town’s 1-0 win over Hartlepool United on Saturday that secured their place in League Two next season.
No, we’re talking about the start of the Cheltenham Youth League cup finals which saw five games, 15 goals and three penalty shootouts, which themselves resulted in 31 goals.
The under-12 final between Lydney Town and FC Highnam provided the most excitement. After a 3-3 draw Lydney edged the shootout in thrilling style, winning 7-6.
There were also penalty shootout wins for FC Lakeside Blues under-10s and Southside Star Tigers under-11s over Cinderford Town and Bishop’s Cleeve respectively.
Both won 5-4 on penalties after Lakeside’s game had ended 0-0 and Southside’s match had finished 1-1.
In the other two games, Charlton Rovers under-18s beat Tewkesbury Town by the odd goal in three, while Quedgeley Wanderers Reds under-9s defeated Winchcombe Town 4-0.
Results:
Quedgeley Wanderers Reds U9s 4 – 0 Winchcombe Town U9s
FC Lakeside Blues U10s 0 – 0 Cinderford Town U10s (5-4 on pens)
Southside Star Tigers U11s 1 – 1 Bishop’s Cleeve Rovers U11s (5-4 on pens)
