Gloucestershire all-rounder Graeme van Buuren set to play 'five or six games' for Cheltenham this season
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Thursday, 26th March 2026, 09:00
Graeme van Buuren has signed up to play for Cheltenham this season and he will be available when his Gloucestershire commitments allow.
The 35-year-old middle order batsman and left-arm spinner is a former county captain and Cheltenham chairman David Partridge is delighted with the move.
“It shows our ambition,” he said. “He’s a very good county cricketer.”
And the stats certainly back that up because he averages more than 40 in first-class cricket with 17 hundreds and has taken 135 wickets at 35.53.
His List A figures are also good – 2,099 runs at more than 28 and 88 wickets at under 32.
Partridge, a former all-rounder who played for Gloucestershire back in the 1970s, expects Van Buuren to be available for "five or six games".
“He’ll set good standards,” Partridge added. “He’ll show how to prepare for a game and how you go about your business.”
Cheltenham have named all-rounder James Boyle as their captain for the new campaign in Premier 2 Glos/Wilts of the West of England Premier League.
But they will be unable to call on the services of last season’s skipper Josh Breed.
“He’s been called into the South African development squad,” Partridge explained. “We’re chuffed to bits for him.
“We’d have liked him to be here but we’re proud that we’ve helped him along the way.”
The just-turned 27-year-old is a right-handed batsman and leg-break bowler.
